Yellow warning in place until Thursday
The Met Office yellow warning for snow and ice is due to be in place until Thursday.
A second warning comes into force all day on Monday, January 15, and now the Met Office have added a warning for Tuesday, January 16, which covers the entirety of the north-east.
A 48-hour warning from midnight on Wednesday, January 17 is then due to come into force with further snow and ice expected across the region.
On Thrusday the warning will only be for snow.
Disruption on the roads and railways is expected, while forecasters are also warning of potential power cuts and the chance of vehicles becoming stranded on snow-covered roads.
City council bosses have said they have gritted most of the city's primary roads.
In a statement the local authority said: "In preparation for the snow and ice forecast, we gritted the primary routes (the main roads which are about 50% of Aberdeen's roads network) overnight. We were also out on Saturday overnight, to get a good build-up of salt on the roads."
A large number of Aberdeenshire schools have been closed due to the bad weather.The full list is available on the Aberdeenshire Council website here.
The Met Office has issued further warnings for snow and ice in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire as cold weather grips the north-east in a chilly start to 2024.
Four yellow warnings have been issued by forecasters, with the first of those in force on Sunday, January 14, with temperatures dropping well below zero across northern Scotland.
